RIGHT DIRECTION MUSIC VIDEO

As many of you know, I just released a new music video for my new single “Right Direction.” This video is something I am so incredibly proud of because it comes from a very, very personal place.

The amazing Tyler Barksdale directed this video, and he knew of a couple of spots in Liepers Fork, TN that he had been wanting to film at. One of them being this very old, deserted home. As far as I know, this house belonged to an elderly woman who pasted away semi-recently, and the house was bought by a property company and has remained vacant. There is still some furniture through out the house, but no running water, no A/C, and lots of dead bugs e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. It was a little spooky, but was very fitting for the meaning behind the song.

Let me explain…

“Home” is a place where we all feel comfortable. I’m sitting here staring at the word “comfortable,” and trying to decide if it’s the right word, because some of our home lives may not have felt comfortable as we were growing up. Home is technically a place we reside when there is no other place to go… I realize that’s a very blunt way to explain it, and I don’t mean that in a negative way… However, it is kind of true. Think about it:  when we are done with our day, and have nothing else to do, we go home because there’s no other place to go. So we CREATE this home space and make it comfortable and a place we WANT to come home to. Correct? As a child, we might not have had much of a choice in the creation of the home space because it was created FOR us by our parents or other family members… Some of us may have had a beautiful home life growing up filled with lots of love, consideration, and peace. Then there are some of us that might have grown up in a chaotic home space with arguing, inconsistency, and division. Either way, there was a vibe created in your home that, whether you like it or not, became COMFORTABLE.

For me, I grew up with everything that I needed materialistically, but my home space at times felt very dramatic and unstable. There was security in the fact that I would be taken care of, but I often felt like the protector or the one who needed to keep the peace. As I became an adult, that amounted to a lot of trust related issues, self-worth issues, and anxiety. Over the course of my romantic relationships, I noticed a pattern in myself that all of those things would manifest over and over again creating chaos.. and I began to notice that not only did I welcome the drama, but I was comfortable IN IT!! I would notice that when everything was calm and good in my relationships with no worries, that I started to feel like something was wrong. Can you believe that?! That’s the subconscious mind at work, folks!

As we become adults, we are able to create our own home space. However, the problem is that when we begin to construct our new homes, we build it on the old foundation. We live our lives thinking that “this is just how I am” or “nothing needs to be fixed here!” Over time, we build walls around ourselves that consist of fears and past trauma. We construct our ceilings based off the limits we place on ourselves caused by harmful words of others or self-defeating beliefs. If you don’t believe me, try knocking one of those fear walls down that protects you from the outside world, and see how that feels.

This music video is all about taking a journey. Finding the courage to walk out of the front door of our “home,” or what’s comfortable.. and adventure through the uncomfortable, unconscious parts of ourselves that are dictating our current state of awareness.  Whether it be old patterns from childhood, or the comfortable place we’ve created in the here and now... it’s time to get real with ourselves and ask a few questions. Are you still living in the old “home” that was created for you with the old foundation, the old beliefs, the old fears? What would it take for you to walk outside and take a little journey, and discover new possibilities for yourself? What if you knew there was another place to go that was beyond your wildest imagination? A place within yourself that is untouchable by anyone and is filled with joy, honesty, compassion, love, hope, acceptance, etc. There is so much more to each and everyone of us than we allow ourselves to access. The truth and reality of it all, lies behind the bullshit.

I think about this old, deserted house we filmed in, and it feels familiar, but I think it’s time for me to move. It’s filled with dead bugs, dust, unstable floors, and no fresh air to breathe. It’s confining, and doesn’t let me live this life to it’s full potential. Walking out of the door feels bitter sweet, as these unhealthy comfort zones are begging me to stay.. but they have held me here for too long. Overall, it’s unbelievably freeing. It’s time for a new journey… and a journey through the unknown can be quite dark and terrifying, but the unexpected beauty you run into along the way shines a light on the truth of our essence and our purpose. It’s that beauty that makes you realize you’ve been living the rest of your life in black and white.
